No Nuance November, but in December

“No Nuance November” spread like wildfire across TikTok, a social media platform where you can literally get famous for doing nothing. The trend consists of a 60-second video of your unpopular/controversial opinions without any context. In many of these videos, creators will jump from one subject to the next - talking about music one second then talking about politics the next.

If we’re being honest here, I absolutely loved this trend. Sure, some people’s opinions were just wrong (and I definitely called them out on it when necessary), but it was a fun trend that lasted pretty much the entire month of November.

(Side note: I feel like the fact that I’m providing you context on what No Nuance November is kind of contradicts the whole point of the trend, but we’re going to ignore that.)

In honor of one of my favorite TikTok trends finally dying out, here is my No Nuance November, but just a few days into December.

  1. Butterfly is the worst stroke to swim and if you disagree then you’re either freakishly tall or an overachiever.

  2. All activism is performative in a sense.

  3. Netflix has really good movies and shows. Y’all just wanna hate on it because they use the same few actors every time (I’m looking at you Noah Centineo).

  4. BTS doesn’t get the respect they deserve from both the Western music industry and the Korean music industry.

  5. To follow that, just because BTS was able to make the (incredibly difficult) achievement of a Grammy nomination and two #1’s on the Billboard Hot100 does not mean it will be easy or even remotely possible for other k-pop groups to achieve this as well.

  6. You shouldn’t be on stan Twitter if you are under the age of 15, and that’s coming from someone who was on stan Twitter the most when I was 13-15.

  7. The Fault In Our Stars is one of the best books of the 21st Century.

  8. Forever 21 has really stepped up their fashion game, so the memes making fun of their clothes are pretty outdated now.

  9. Shopping sustainably is difficult for the majority of the population. Stop making people feel bad if they can’t - your privilege is showing.

  10. Every white person benefits from white privilege whether you intend to or not.

  11. The LGBTQIA+ community should NOT be as biphobic as it is. What do you think the “B” in there stands for? Bacon?

  12. By requesting trigger warnings for every single little thing on the internet, the credibility and usefulness of trigger warnings no longer exist.

  13. To my fellow k-pop stans: Stop fetishizing Asian people, especially Korean people. It’s disgusting.

  14. Having a preference or a type is okay, but don’t talk poorly of people just because they don’t fit your preference.

  15. Cancel culture is extremely toxic. Hold people accountable, educate them, and give them room to grow. People can change - we’ve seen it with so many people.

  16. However, stop defending grown adults for their problematic behavior. Yes, they knew better. Educate them but don’t defend them.

  17. “But Namjoon …” is no longer credible in any of the discussions about racism in k-pop. Why? Because Namjoon educated himself and has proven time and time again that he has changed. He’s apologized, been forgiven by the community he offended and has shown that he has changed. Stop bringing it up, especially when he has stated multiple times he regrets it.

  18. The “Holy Trinity” should be Matthew Gray Gubler, Harry Styles, and Ross Lynch. Timothee Chalamet didn’t join in until a few years ago, but Ross Lynch has been in our hearts for almost a decade.

  19. You’re a republican/conservative? Cool, we got some good conversations coming up then. Oh, you’re a Trump Republican? *blocked*

  20. Dual-enrollment classes are better than AP classes.

  21. Minimalistic tattoos are the best tattoos.

  22. Justin Bieber’s response to the Grammy nominations was so ungrateful and just made him look dumb. Doesn’t he know he had to submit for that specific category? He’s mad he didn’t get an r&b nomination, but he submitted for pop? Make it make sense.

  23. Softball is harder than baseball.

  24. Having “yeah you got that yummy yum that yummy yum” in the same category as Cartigan by our lord and savior Taylor Swift is just plain disrespectful.

  25. Books are always better than the movies except for the Harry Potter series. Why would I read 600+ page books when I can just watch Emma Watson for multiple hours?

  26. Apple Music is better than Spotify. There, I said it.

  27. If your Spotify Wrapped has only Lil Yachty, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, or anyone even remotely similar to those artists… How?

  28. Glee songs are almost always better than the original. Smooth Criminal? Valerie (Season 5 version)? Somewhere Only We Know? Cough Syrup? Hopelessly Devoted To You? The Scientist? I could go on.

  29. High School Musical 3 is superior.

  30. Ruel is one of the best artists of my generation and yet he is incredibly underrated.

  31. Not everyone can be Heather. Why? Because you actually have to be a good person for that.

  32. If we were all Charlie D’Amelio famous at 15, every single one of us would be canceled. No, I will not explain this further.

  33. Women's volleyball is more technical than men's volleyball.
